I love San Francisco because it's one of the very few (maybe only) cities that allow people to engage in public sex, and walk around in ass-less chaps, or nothing at all.

Anywho, I was more stoked on going to the Farmer's Market in Civic Center, than to Folsom. How hippy am I? I was having a blah day, but as soon as I got my samosa, I perked right up!

i've been totally sick since yesterday. Nancy from InkyGirls is here in SF today but I'm in no condition to go out and be seen by normal people.

I also haven't talked to my fiancee in a while and it makes me miss him more. I hope he takes a photo of himself because I imagine him to look like a swollen chipmunk after his surgery.

Two highlights:

- my wedding dress is almost ready. It's super cute and NOTHING like what I would normally wear. It's a champagne-blush color and it grazes my knees so it's pretty modest. It also has side seams so it makes me look skinnier =)

- i met the girl i've been having an e-crush on for a while. she's absolutely adorable, and just as tiny as i am and there are photos that include us naked. BONUS: she let me borrow her dress. and is it weird that i'm more stoked on seeing her again (before i leave for germany) than I am on seeing my current friends?

Anywho, I am determined to finish Iris Chang's Rape of Nanking. The atrocities that happened in China during WWII are so horrific that I can't imagine that it actually existed.

The Japanese soldiers shot every single Chinese person they came in contact with.

The Japanese had killing contests to see who can kill 100 Chinese men first.

They killed used the Chinese men as targets for bayonet practice, beheaded them and sent the heads home as trophies, buried the civilians halfway deep in dirt and had dogs rip them apart, sliced babies in halves and quarters.

They kidnapped hundreds of thousands of Chinese, Korean, and Indonesian women to be "comfort women" i.e. sex slaves that were starved and dehydrated, and killed when no longer able to satisfy the men.
In Confucianism, chastity for women was a virtue greater than life. Many of the comfort women committed suicide after they've been raped (if they even survived), and the ones who didn't, lived in shame and agony.

It took years before the Japanese government to own up to these crimes, and they paid these women money.

Like money does anything. No amount of money will ever make up for something like that.

I think they use money as a way to cover up their crimes.

It kills me to read this book, knowing that it happened in the country that my family is from. I know wars and horrors has happened everywhere, so I'm sure you all must understand how I feel. I'm affected by everything that goes on in this world, the Khmer Rouge, the War in Iraq, and animal cruelty, because I know that violence does not discriminate.

I honestly don't know what can make me feel better. I don't care about money. I think if Japan recognizes what it has done to my country, the country that has one of the longest civilizations, and the country that Japan itself has borrowed from, then I can feel better. But the Japanese government still has not apologized to China.

Okay, enough of my rant. I will go watch America's Next Top Model now.
