Hello to all my Deviant friends.

Ken has asked me to take over the duties of posting here and keeping everyone informed as to what Cockfight Club is up to.

I am Elusive, keyboardist and drummer for Cockfight Club and am excited about what's been happening lately with the band. We have had a huge response to our second album Acockolypse Now and are currently working on getting a summer tour together to promote it.

We will be filming videos for Mr. Misanthropy and for Dying Alone in the coming weeks and I will let you all know where and how to view them as well.

We're back!

Hey, an update! Sorry so long since I've posted anything here. We've been hard at work on our new CD, Acockalypse Now, which I'm pleased to say is now scheduled for release on April 17th. And in the middle of it all, the live band went through a pretty significant line-up change. The new leaner & meaner line-up now consists of Ken Calloway, Graceless Lacy Babcock, Elusive, and our brand new guitarist, Dustin Gant.

I should be slowly posting some new content here over the next several days. We've got some exciting news in the works, including some guest appearances on the new CD and some possible touring opportunities coming up this summer, so stay tuned for details.

The new CD is sounding great! We've got pre-release versions of a couple of the new tracks up at our myspace page, so please check them out and let us know what you think!

Hi Deviants, Very sorry for the lack of updates in so long, but we're working hard on another album and still trying to play as many shows as we can in the meantime. I can confidently say that the new cd is definitely going to be worth the wait! I believe we will be pre-releasing two of the new tracks, probably "Supermassive" and the cd's title track, "Acockalypse Now". Both should be making their premiere on World Rock Radio (www.worldrockradio.com) with DJ Genocyde sometime soon after Halloween and then should be available online shortly thereafter. Lots of cool surprises in store on the new disc, including a few special guests!

This is really fun. Our good friend Heather made this video for us of our song Hero. Live footage is from a show at the Princess Theater in Columbus on August 12th, and the rest is from an apparently drunken party attended by many good friends of the band (and including Jessie and Jackson, our drummer and guitarist; pay attention and you'll see them).

Playing with the Independents this Friday (hellz yeah!), and then it's time for a much needed break! Well, back to the studio anyway...

As far as rock and roll weekends go, this last one was pretty stellar. Two big shows in two nights, a ton of great bands, a kick ass light show, a great crowd, LOTS of crazy stuff, and an overnight stay in a haunted theater! Unfortunately we didn't see any ghosts, but I guess all that rocking frightened them away. We got tons of great video from this show so more will be coming soon, but here (at long last) is some live footage of our song H.P. Lovecraft!

So last spring when the band really stepped-up its practice schedule I had to do a little rearranging in the studio to make it more usable as a rehearsal space. I was all excited because I finally got things set back up for recording this week, and I was really looking forward to laying down some tracks on the new songs. But wouldn't you know, suddenly the boot drive on my main power mac starts having troubles. Actually it's amazing that I haven't had any trouble out of it before now considering the way I've used it. But anyway, I ran Disk Warrior on it and did get it to mount, but for some reason I still can't boot from it. Oh well, at least my data is intact. Popped in a new hard drive, and now I'm busy reinstalling all my applications. Not nearly as much fun as recording, but I'll get it all sorted out in a few days and then we can get down to business.

Probably won't get a whole lot done this week though. We've got a big weekend coming up on the 25th. Two big shows at the Princess in Columbus both Friday and Saturday, so I suppose we'll stay down there. Should be fun staying overnight in what is supposedly the most haunted building in the state! Some production company out of Starkville is supposed to be doing lights for us on Saturday night, digital led lasers and the whole 9 yards, so that should be pretty awesome. More pics and vids coming soon, I promise...

Yeah, I know, the camera work starts out a little rough, but stick with it. I never said this was pro video! I've got tons of good video from the shows over the last few weeks. Now I've just got to find the time to go through it.

I really need to do some work on this profile! There's a ton of new pics and other content I could add, but we've been so busy lately it's hard to find the time. This summer has been a blast so far, lots of great shows and lots of good times, and we have no plans to stop now. After seeing the numbers on recent CD sales and downloads, all I can say is WOW! It looks like our original print run of the über güber CD will be gone soon (not to mention our decimated sticker supply)! Many, many thanks to everyone who has picked up a copy and everyone who has otherwise supported the band! You have proven that there is hope for independent underground music yet! Work has already begun on the next album, and more good news, T-shirts are finally on the way. We should have them next week, and arrangements are being made with our pals at Miskatonic Tees for mail order distribution. Here's a preview of both the front and back designs, we're doing red tees with black print on this run. Let me know what you think!

Last night was the most fun ever. We had a killer show at the historic (and supposedly haunted) Princess Theater in Columbus, as far as I'm concerned, the coolest venue in the world. Got to rock out with our good buddies the Hamburger Hobos and the Cemetery Surfers. The crowd was awesome, the response was great, and a good time was had by all. Haulin' Ass To Hell

Ack! I have somehow managed to come down with a summer cold and a bit of a sore throat a week before a big show on June 16th. I'm sure I'll be fine by the show, but I hoped to get in a good practice this weekend. Currently dosing on vitamin C, drinking lots of water, not drinking alcohol, gargling with Dr. Tichenor's, and occassionally knocking myself out with Nyquil as needed. Anybody got any good remedies?

Well, today kicks of Tupelo's 2006 Elvis Presley Festival. We thought we might get the chance to play this year, but of course, we were passed over. Ken's reaction is documented below for posterity:

Actually that wasn't totally unexpected. We weren't real sure how we would go over at the "family-friendly" (can also be translated as lame) Elvis Fest anyway. Cockfight Club has been described in a number of ways, but "family-friendly" isn't one of them. And for a town that gave birth to the King of Rock and Roll, Tupelo sure is about as un-rock-n-roll as you can get. Not that there aren't some good bands in the area, there just aren't many places to play, and the ridiculously restrictive alcohol laws (no sales after midnight, no sales on sundays), sure do put a damper on the music scene.

That being said, we're off to Columbus tonight to one of our favorite venues, The Princess Theater, to see our friends The Cooters, The Blue Nowhere, and Dr. Daniel & the Rockabilly Vampires! Now that's a rock show Elvis could be proud of!

Apparitions, Hobos, and Other Obsolete Updates

Hello Deviants, Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Hope you're having a good one!

Just a few updates from the world of Cockfight Club:

Apparitions Unrenowned, a film written and directed by Tony Caldwell and featuring Cockfight Club's own Ken Calloway, took FIRST PLACE in the Experimental Category at the 2006 Tupelo Film Festival! Watch for it at a film festival near you!

Also we have booked a couple of fantastic shows at the historic (and supposedly haunted!) Princess Theater in Columbus, MS. Now I realize that these shows are probably far out of driving distance for most of you, but we have the privilege of playing with some great bands that you owe it to yourself to check out. And if you're not out of driving distance, you better bring your ass out to the rock show!

I confess I'm the most excited about the July 9th show, mainly because we get to open for one of my favorite bands in the world, MANKIND IS OBSOLETE! If by some chance you have not yet heard this band, please do so now! Also we'll be joined that night by our good friends The Cemetery Surfers, the undisputed kings of shockabilly! What a night that's going to be...

But before that even gets here, we'll be rocking the Princess on June 16th with our new friends, the Hamburger Hobos! Please check them out! Let me put it this way, if Sonic Youth and the Pixies had a baby in Frank Zappa's garage, it might sound a little like Hamburger Hobos. Now you know you've gotta check that out....

Greetings Fellow Deviants,

Ken from Cockfight Club here. Thanks very much for dropping by our page and checking out our profile. I finally had the chance to do some work on it and upload some pics to our portfolio today. More updates will follow shortly.

We're very happy to be here on DN! The site looks great! Extra special thanks to Heretic for introducing us to the site, and to Gwindylyn and the rest of the DN crew for having us here. And thanks to all the rest of you who have made us feel at home!

We'll get some songs up for you here as soon as we can, but in the meantime you can hear us at our myspace page, and there are tracks available for free download from our website at www.cockfightclub.net. Both places are a great way to stay current with what's going on in the world of Cockfight Club, and I'll try to keep you posted via this journal as well.

We've got some great shows coming up this summer with more to be announced very soon, and I have finally begun work on the second album. It's been a big year for us, and things just seem to keep getting more exciting. I hope you'll come along with us for the ride!
