<itunes:summary>I know you
You were too short
You had bad skin
You couldn't talk to them very well
Words didn't seem to work
They lied when they came out of your mouth

You tried so hard to understand them
You wanted to be part of what was happening
You saw them having fun
And it seemed like such a mystery
Almost magic

Made you think that there was something wrong with you
You'd look in the mirror and try to find it
You thought that you were ugly
And that everyone was looking at you

So you learned to be invisible
To look down
To avoid conversation

The hours, days, weekends
Ah, the weekend nights alone
Where were you?
In the basement?
In the attic?
In your room?
Working some job - just to have something to do.
Just to have a place to put yourself
Just to have a way to get away from them
A chance to get away from the ones that made you feel
so strange and ill at ease inside yourself

Did you ever get invited to one of their parties?
You sat and wondered if you would go or not
For hours you imagined the scenarios that might transpire
They would laugh at you
If you would know what to do
If you'd have the right things on
If they would notice that you came from a different planet

Did you get all brave in your thoughts?
Like you going to be able to go in there and deal with it
and have a great time.
Did you think that you might be the life of the party?
That all these people were gonna talk to you and you
would find out that you were wrong?
That you had a lot of friends and you weren't so
strange after all?

Did you end up going?
Did they mess with you?
Did they single you out?
Did you find out that you were invited because they
thought you were so weird?

Yeah, I think I know you
You spent a lot of time full of hate
A hate that was pure sunshine
A hate that saw for miles
A hate that kept you up at night
A hate that filled your every waking moment
A hate that carried you for a long time

Yes, I think I know you
You couldn't figure out what they saw in the way they lived

Home was not home
Your room was home
A corner was home
The place they weren't, that was home

I know you

You're sensitive and you hide it because you fear
getting stepped on one more time
It seems that when you show a part of yourself that is
the least bit vulnerable someone takes advantage of you
One of them steps on you

They mistake kindliness for weakness
But you know the difference
You've been the brunt of their weakness for years
And strength is something you know a bit about because
you had to be strong to keep yourself alive

You know yourself very well now
And you don't trust people
You know them too well

You try to find that special person
Someone you can be with
Someone you can touch
Someone you can talk to
Someone you don't feel so strange around
And you find that they don't really exist
You feel closer to people on movie screens

Yeah, I think I know you
You spend a lot of time daydreaming
And people have made comment to that effect
Telling you that you're self involved, and self centred

But they don't know, do they?
About the long night shifts alone
About the years of keeping yourself company
All the nights you wrapped your arms around yourself
so you could imagine someone holding you
The hours of indecision, self doubt
The intense depression
The blinding hate
The rage that made you stagger
The devastation of rejection

Well, maybe they do know
But if they do, they sure do a good job of hiding it
It astounds you how they can be so smooth
How they seem to pass through life as if life itself
was some divine gift
And it infuriates you to watch yourself with your
apparent skill at finding every way possible to screw it up

For you life is a long trip
Terrifying and wonderful
Birds sing to you at night
The rain and the sun the changing seasons are true friends
Solitude is a hard won ally, faithful and patient
Oh hey a cake!

Looks pretty normal I think I'll just cut in to it and...

WHAT IS THIS TRICKERY!?

Rainbow cake is fun and pretty easy to make, and looks way cooler than boring old normal cake. This is how you do it, but you can't show anyone else because this is my secret "suprise people on their birthday" trick this year:

First, get your cakemakin hat on. This can be any kind of hat really, though I prefer this kind:

Anyhow, once you've got the hat situation all fixed up, gather your ingredients. Some kind of cake mix is the easy way to go here, but you should stick to either white, angelfood (no fat, yay!), or yellow. Then you wanna mix everything together so you have your batter, then seperate it out in to baggies, one for each color you want in your cake. One of the bags should have a tiny bit more in it (~10% more) than the others.

Then, add food coloring to each of the seperate bags. The bag with 10% more in it should get the color that you are planning on using to the color closest to the pan. Since this is a 2-layer cake, we'll have two 10% more bags. If you are using yellow cake mix, just don't bother trying to make your yellow bag more yellow - you're already all set and it'll turn out pretty bright. For the example, we're using Angel Food (and watching our girlish figures~).

Once you've got that all seperated out, preheat your oven and get ready to pour in the batter. Begin with your base, and slowly add the contents of the bag to the pan, making sure it spreads out to the edges. Then, take the next color in your sequence and repeat - aim for the middle of the pan and slowly let gravity empty it out. When you're done, you should end up with something that looks like this:

Bake according to whichever kind of cake mix you're using.

Protect your project from lurking predators! (who hate it when your camera flash accidentally goes off)

Now, since we're making 2-layers of rainbow cake we'll need something to glue them together with. Since we're trying to watch the calorie amount, we'll be using fat-free, sugar free Jello banana pudding. Mix it up, and apply it in between your layers. For a fluffier filling, add in some fat-free cool whip.

(yes I'm using a bottle that I use to mix my protein shakes, so sue me :<)

Well that's all fine and nice but it hardly looks appetizing or suprising. So we're gonna hide it in white or whatever color you like. Since frosting is basically horrible for you, we'll be using the same fat-free cool whip we used to fluff up the banana pudding. And we'll add some strawberries on top to prettify it.

Voila! It's cake!
Love,
Well that's all fine and nice but it hardly looks appetizing or suprising. So we're gonna hide it in white or whatever color you like. Since frosting is basically horrible for you, we'll be using the same fat-free cool whip we used to fluff up the banana pudding. And we'll add some strawberries on top to prettify it.

Voila! It's cake!
<itunes:summary>oh god oh god oh god

I am finally fulfilling my 10+ year dream of getting in to photography. I got a fine-ass deal on a pristine Nikon D70 (yes I know it's old but it's a good camera shut up) and a pretty decent beginning lens and I am completely overwhelmed by the amount of shit I have to read. I have been reading so much my brain is about to melt, and the two books I have shipping from amazon haven't even got here yet. Sucks that online I've seemed to have to slog through so much Canon/Nikon fanboy slapfights to get to real information.

So far, my plan of action is as follows:

Take pictures of everything that moves

Take pictures of things that don't move too

Begin constructing my studio lighting arrangement which will likely be an AB800 and a softbox for the time being

Resist the urge to post the million pictures of my cat that I will inevitably take

Start noodling around with Photoshop and probably ultimately divorce it for Lightroom or Aperture

Get a 50mm f/1.8 lens

Shit myself whenever I talk lighting with Raven Macabre

Re-read just about everything 5000 times until I know what all of these goddamned terms and abbreviations mean, though I am most of the way there on this one so far

Figure out how to shoot myself.

Holy shit. So much to do and read. I am pretty excited about it though. Especially considering I almost got a Nikon D60 instead of my D70, and the more I read the happier I am that I didn't considering it really really limits the amount of lenses you can use with it and fuck that I want to experiment (even if it will cost me my firstborn eventually).

To photographers who may be reading this, was it this overwhelming when you started? Was there anything you wish you knew when you started, that no one told you? Any advice on getting third-party lenses, or anything stellar that sticks out to you?

Anyone shoot themselves? How in the sam hill do you do it well?

<itunes:summary>
My eyes hurt from not blinking while I play Left 4 Dead for so long. I love this game so much and I love the random players I've found at weird hours of the morning, so I've been geeking out pretty hard on it. I even saw a morbidly obese guy puke in public and instinctively yelled out "BOOMER!"

My best bud from high school came and stayed here for a week and I got him hooked. I also helped harass his friend via instant messenger and got a bunch of people to join in. We were all spamming him with Star Fox 64 quotes since he had initially been texting my friend Star Fox quotes. It came down to a whole lot of yelling "Barrel roll" at him after I messaged him every line of dialogue (thank you gamefaqs!) because he was getting so huffy about it. Yeah sounds pretty dumb but his reactions were hilarious.

Fast-forward to last night, we're all playing Left 4 Dead online. I get my friend's permission beforehand, and we play this one board that has a gas station on it that you can blow up, and cause the biggest explosion in the game. We're all playing and getting to that point, and I'm like "hey let's go over to the gas station." He asks why and I tell him there's usually explosives or something good over there and he goes charging off while my friend and I hang back. He gets close enough and I just yell "BARREL ROLL MOTHERFUCKER!" and blow it up on him, killing him almost instantly. One of the greatest joys in co-op games in griefing your friends.

I've also started a somewhat massive undertaking. I have downloaded every gameboy game ever, and since my husband said that I wouldn't, I am going to play every single one. I did take out all the sports games and some of the *blah blah blah movie the game* ones though, but I have so much time to kill at work anyway I figured why not. Some of them are in japanese so I figure I'll make the plot up as I go along. I'll probably post about it if anything interesting happens.
This week in internet.

      [Deviant Nation] Locke's Journal
      <itunes:author>Locke</itunes:author>
      <itunes:summary>
It's funny to see how you can tell what region of the internet someone spends their time in by how they type occasionally. Sort of like an inter-accent. I guess it's kind of a weird thing to just explain out, so here's a few examples:

People who double space their sentences. Like that. - This person is probably over 24ish since they used to teach kids to do that in a lot of schools for formal papers. I didn't even know people did this till I was proofreading something my husband wrote.

/action: This person was/is probably a roleplayer or an mmo guy. Typing /verb basically is like entering a command. Like the infamous /pizza from everquest, which would pull up the website for Pizza Hut to order delivery.

*action*: Used to or still does chat-based roleplaying. Probably kind of a weird person. See also - yahoo chat's Yaoi Catboy Lounge.

/edit to whatever they previously said

//addition to the above statement: Farker. Will probably call you fat. Never ever try to talk to them about politics because even if they agree with you, they'll probably get mad anyway.

makes a considerable effort to type in all lowercase letters. uses absolutely no punctuation except periods but still spells everything out, and pays attention to grammar. - Either lazy in strange ways, or more likely a pretentious social networking douchebag. People like this usually only ever communicate over AIM, Myspace, or anything you can make a profile on and pretend to seem OMG SO DIFFERENT AND DEEP. It's a pathetic attempt at looking like you've got something deeper and probably brooding going on when really, you're just an attention whore. Probably has a font on AIM that's a light color on a dark background.

:emoticon: - Something Awful poster that has lost their way and seemingly forgotten that those codes only work on the forums. Probably obsessed with the website, avoid at all costs.

typse liek this n stuf lol - AOL user and probably under the age of 16. Or is a dumb girl that makes people think myself and other girls who type properly are dudes at first since we're not spamming lol and smileys all over the place. Bitches love smileys.

a/s/l? - Cop. And not a very observant one. No one actually says this anymore, do they? What'd you do to have a cop talking to you over AIM, hmmm? Why don't you take a seat over there.

I love youtube. Not in the way I see the college kids I guard love youtube, giggling insanely at nut shots and videos of people screaming out flavors of muffins in highpitched irritating voices. No no. It has absolutely nothing to do with the videos themselves. I love it for the comments, since I've developed a game called "what the fuck is this person's life like". I'll look at a comment on some informative video or something made by a faceless member of the human race and just try to wrap my head around what this person's life must be like to have their train of thought lead them to the conclusion that "yes, this is worth posting on the internet. My voice should be heard". Only for the bizzare-assed comments like this though:

"Jesusboner" is 'spergin about this video about vaccuums and eggs. No this wasn't a reply to anything, and no I have no idea what is going on here either.

"ya, your right, they do enjoy your ferraris and mansions, thats the only reason they would possibly sleep with you, they sleep with me because they are actually physically attracted to me and are not repulsed by my gross apearance, my four eyes, and my pizzaface. they don't need to use my possesions "

Comment on a pro-McCain propaghanda video:

"John McCain does not want to ban Viagra. He is only emboldening fornicators who disobey G-d's will and have extramarital intercourse. McCain is betraying us evangelicals and I think? we need to stop him."

Some silly, clearly 12 year old girl made a fun little video of a trick you can do to make a teabag fly up when you light it on fire. Cause who the heck didn't like neat little sciencey tricks when they were kids (and even still now)? Hey guys, are you looking at this neat trick I learned in 6th grade science class today? Guys? Hello?

"the only thing i was thinking of? was fucking her, but thats just me... "

"she's flat chested"

  "that she is :("

She's fucking 12!

"Sweet, Seductive, And Soo wanting to Teach you!

FASTLOVERFUN._COM"

"id tap that Australian bitch"

"i was hoping that you were gonna get t-bagged by a soaking sweat? wet ball sack right in your mouth, no offense"

"thats so gay? you should kill yourself p.s you got any weed?"

I am now gonna add "ps you got any weed?" to the end of every insult I ever use in real life now, just to throw people off.

"i could kill myself? watching that i was so unset i through shed get t bagged"

Guys? Hello?
