The get-together in Louisville this weekend was a blast...it's always cool to meet online friends in real life and discover they're just as awesome in real life as they are online. Wes and Chixor were amazing hosts and I'm totally jealous of their book collection.

I don't really have anything to add to what everyone else has posted, except that based on the sample of DN people this weekend, we are not good bowlers.

The only bad thing about the weekend was having to go straight to work Sunday night after the 3.5 hour drive home (literally straight to work - we got home 5 minutes before I had to be there.) It was certainly worth it though, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next get-together.

Off to go catch up on my weekend TV - hooray for Dr. Who...

Went to the store today with the intention of picking up an XBox 360....left with a Wii.
Works for me, cuz we were planning on getting both eventually, just figured we'd have to wait a while to find a Wii..but the opportunity arose, so we got it.
If anyone wants to add tattooedgeek & I to their friends, our Wii number is 8681-7045-3425-3446.

Had a shitload of fun last night at Cooter's birthday party for his beard...got to see lots of people I hadn't seen in a while, also the first time I've gone out to a club in forever. Got some ok pictures of tattooedgeek, cooter, cupcake, and raeli.....enjoy.

I need a haircut.

So yeah, haven't posted a journal in a good while - that's because I have a boring life.

I've read some good comics lately - got caught up on Walking Dead, which is the best zombie comic I've read. It's in black & white, which may turn off some people, but it shouldn't - this is quality stuff.
Also finally got around to reading Strangers in Paradise. tattooedgeek got me the first 2 collections for xmas, and I pretty quickly ended up buying the rest of the series. I absolutely loved it - in fact, I'd put it right up there with Sandman & Runaways as one of my favorites. I'm incredibly eager to see what Terry Moore does on Runaways once Joss finishes up his (incredibly delayed) stint. Speaking of Joss, the Buffy season 8 series continues to be fucking awesome, as do the Angel season 6 books.
Also speaking of awesome feminist TV, I recently started rewatching Xena, and it's as good as I remember it.

I'm looking for some more good comics to read..any suggestions? I've read a lot of good things about Love & Rockets - any input?

Dunno if anyone else is a fan of UFC, but the PPV last night was awesome. Got to see my favorite fighter completely dominate one of my least favorite fighters, and all the matches were pretty good. If I'd actually ordered it rather than downloading it, I would consider it money well spent.

Also: hooray! the second series of The IT Crowd started Friday night.
Also also: the second season of Frisky Dingo started Sunday night..hooray again!

Just got back from visiting tattooedgeek at work, and had a nice dorky moment as I was looking for a parking spot. There was a car with a vanity plate that said "McGuffin", and my first thought was that I'd love to ask the owner if that had any significance. OK, so I guess it's not funny if you're not a big movie geek, but it made me laugh.

That just reminded me of my favorite supergeek moment I've ever had...about 10 years ago, I was working part-time in the computer lab at the college I was attending, and one week my paycheck totaled $80.86. The very first thought that went through my head was, "wow...this check'll go much faster than that". gotta love being a computer geek...

I don't have to work again until a week from monday...hell yeah.

For anyone out there that's a fan of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, I wholeheartedly recommend the series Spaced. It's a British show by the same bunch that made the aforementioned movies (Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Edgar Wright), and is hands down one of the funniest things I've ever seen. It's only been released in the UK, so the only way to get it over here is to track it down online...it's pretty easy to find, and is certainly worth the effort.
Speaking of awesome british TV, I also recently tore through all 3 new seasons of Doctor Who and the season of Torchwood....great, great stuff.

Finally got around to starting on John From Cincinnati last night...watched the first 3 episodes, and will probably get the rest of the way caught up tonight. It's as strange as I've heard, and I'm definitely enjoying it so far. I can certainly see how people could dislike it - it's much stranger than most television. I don't know that all the strangeness is actually leading up to something coherent, but even if it doesn't, it's entertaining me enough to stick with it. Also, Rebecca De Mornay is still sexy as hell at 48.

Oh, and if you know him and haven't already, welcome back Cooter to DN, because he's awesome.

So I've been thinking about what to get for my next tattoo, and right now I'm leaning towards this,

most likely on the inside of my forearm.
I love the way it looks, and I love what it represents.

but....
I also kinda feel that as a straight male, it might be tacky. I mean, I'm a feminist, and pretty hardcore about it - but, for instance, I'm also strongly anti-racist, but I'd never get a black power tattoo because it would feel like cultural appropriation, and I'm not sure if I think this would be the same sort of thing.
Tattooedgeek says I'm probably just overanalyzing the whole thing, and she's probably right.

So what do you all think? I'd especially like to know what those of you who consider yourselves hardcore feminists think...

I just found by far the best thing I've ever found in about 11 years of buying records at flea markets...

First off, it's Sandra Bernhard, and she's fucking awesome.
Second, it's got Tori Amos singing backup on a cover of Little Red Corvette, and this is from 1989...back during the godawful Y Kant Tori Read days.
Third, it's autographed..evidently it was won in some radio show call-in contest, there's a little letter inside saying as much...
Fourth, it's in perfect shape....as near as I can tell, the records have never even been taken out of their sleeves..

Best of all? it cost me fifty cents...
finds like this make digging through hundreds of shitty records worth it..
